  • Askill, Michael-Australian Percussion Music, Volume One- CD- stereo-Southern Cross SCCD 1021 - 1988 compact disc release by Australian percussionist, Michael Askill. CD is the first of 2 volumes entitled, "Australian Percussion Music". The second volume is readily available, while this is out of print and very hard to find. Askill's music, performed solely by him using multi-tracking and an amazing array of percussion instruments, is hard to categorize, but is probably best described as 20th Century Classical music. He performs the works of 4 Australian composers on this CD: Nigel Westlake/Omphalo Centric Lecture, Martin Wesley-Smith/White Knight & Beaver, Peter Sculthorpe/How the Stars Were Made, & Ross Edwards/Marimba Dances. Sound of the CD is exotic with shimmering chimes & cymbals, sounding quite a bit like electronic Classical music, although only real instruments are used. Cover shows slight creasing-disc is MINT.
