- Apaka, Alfred-Golden Voice of the Islands- LP- mono-Capitol T 1882 - 1963 33 1/3 RPM LP release by legendary Hawaiian singer, Alfred Apaka. Apaka's career spanned the 1940's to his untimely passing at age 41. Material was recorded in the 1950's for Webley Edwards, as part of his "Hawaii Calls" series. Tracks include "Here (In This Enchanted Place", "Pohai Kealoha", and "Hawaiian Paradise". LP is still sealed in original shrinkwrap. Copy at hand is an original RCA Living Stereo LP, offering excellent audiophile-quality sound. Cover is Near Mint. - Belvin, Jesse-The Smooth Rhythm & Blues Sounds of Jesse Belvin- CD- stereo-RCA RJC 67710 - 1999 promo-only CD release by vocalist & songwriter, Jesse Belvin. We're not quite sure why this CD was released. It may have been a publisher's sampler or a promo for a CD project that was cancelled. In any case, the disc offers a generous 25 tracks taken from Belvin's 2 RCA album sessions, with excellent sound quality. (These LP's were originally recorded with the vaunted RCA "Living Stereo" process, which offered ahead-of-it's-time audiophile-quality sound reproduction. Also, top arrangers like Marty Paich and players like Jack Sheldon & Art Pepper were also used on these sessions, which are extremely well-produced.) Belvin had a vocal style which many have compared to Nat "King" Cole and to Sam Cooke. Two Pop hits from the RCA era are included in this collection, "Funny" and "Guess Who". Cover is Near Mint. - Brown/ Oscar Brown Jr.-Tells It Like It Is! (1st Press)- LP- Mono-Columbia CL 2025 - 1964 release, 33 1/3 RPM LP by Jazz vocalist and actor Oscar Brown, Jr. Brown's approach is a bit like that of Jon Hendrick's, but with a bluesier and more soulful feel. Like Hendricks and King Pleasure, Brown often takes a classic Jazz instrumental tune (like "All Blues" by Miles Davis on this LP) and write words to fit the improvised solo parts. Tracks include "One Foot in the Gutter", "The Snake" and "Tall Like Pine." Cover is clean and Near Mint. No stains, splits, heavy creases, writing or tears. Disc (360 degree sound label) is Mint. Features 14 tracks all recorded live at the Copa-Cabana in New York City, and for those of you who don't know, Darin's stint at the Copa was legendary. Includes "I Can't Give You Anything But Love", "Bill Bailey", "I Got a Woman" and a couple of medleys. The cover, with beautiful high gloss, is pristine-as if the shrink has just been peeled off! Collection of Bobby Darin ATCO material, compiling his great early Rock 'N' Roll material ("Splish Splash," "Early in the Morning," "Dream Lover") with a bit of his "Las Vegas" Sinatra-inspired period ("Mack the Knife," "Beyond the Sea"). Darin narrates the LP, with a few words to introduce each song. LP 1st issued in '61 with a white cover. This was quickly withdrawn and from '62 on the black cover design was used. Copy at hand is a black cover 2nd press-still factory SEALED in original shrink. As the record is sealed, we cannot open it to check on the label-however, the weight of the album makes us fairly certain this is a heavy vinyl early pressing. Cover is near-perfect inside shrink with sharp corners (tiny exposed area at bottom right has almost no wear). - Nash, Johnny-I Got Rhythm- LP- Stereo-ABC Paramount ABCS 299 - 1959 release, 33 1/3 RPM LP by Houston-born singer Johnny Nash. Nash is best known for his late 60s Reggae/Ska flavored hits "Stir It Up" and "Hold Me Tight" recorded in Jamaica, but Johnny was groomed for stardom starting in 1957 by ABC producer/arranger Don Costa, who thought he had another Lloyd Price on his hands (Johnny did have 4 Pop hits while with ABC).
