Dibango, Manu-Ambassador- LP- Stereo-Mango MLPS 9658 - 1981 release by saxophonist/pianist from Cameroon, Africa, Manu Dibango. He played Jazz until 1960, and then switched to more traditional African music. He had 2 R&B hits in the early 70's with "Soul Makossa" and "Dangwa." This album features a sound that is part Afro-Funk and part Disco, with an all-star line up. Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, Willie Lindo, Ansell Collins, Gwen Guthrie, Ulanda McCullough, Randy and Michael Brecker. Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, at Dynamic Sound. 6 tracks, including "Choc 'n' Soul" & "Kumbale Style." Cover is clean and Near Mint. Vinyl is clean, glossy and Near Mint.
Hancock, Herbie and Foday Musa Suso-Village Life- LP- Stereo-Columbia FC 39870 - 1985 33 1/3 RPM LP release by American Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock and West African (Gambian native) Kora master Foday Musa Suso. The album, produced by world music impressario Bill Laswell, features only Hancock playing an array of electronic keyboards, sythesizers and a digital drum machine and Sousa playing kora and talking drum. The result is modern African fusion with Hancock showing great restraint to fit the style. Tracks include "Kanatente" and "Early Warning." Cover is Near Mint. Disc is clean, glossy & Near Mint.

Makeba, Miriam-Pata Pata- LP- Stereo-Reprise 6274 - 1967 release 33 1/3 RPM LP, the second for South African born vocalist Miriam Makeba. She, followed by Hugh Masakela, was the first South African performer to acheive international success. Miriam Makeba reprises her internationl hit "Pata Pata" here. Other tracks include South African favorites "Click Song Number One" and "Yetentu Tizaleny." This album is produced by Jerry Rogavoy (best known as a Soul producer & song writer and for his work with Janis Joplin), who contributes 2 original songs, "Ring Bell" & "What Is Love." Olatunji, Babatunde-Zungo!- LP- mono-Columbia CL 1634 - 1961 33 1/3 RPM LP release by Nigerian drummer and vocalist, Babatunde Olatunji. For this album (his 1st US LP), a large cast of musicians was assembled, including 13 vocalists, a 7-piece Jazz combo (Yusef Lateef, Clark Terry, Jimmy Nottingham, etc), and six percussionists (Montigo Joe, Ray Barretto, etc). Tracks include: 1) "Masque Dance" 2) "Zungo" 3) "Philistine." Sound of LP is a mix of pure Nigerian highlife, Afro-Cuban, and Jazz-flavored pieces, all topped by Olatunji's magnificent drumming. Cover (promo stamp in ink on back cover) is clean with slight ringwear. We have neatly repaired two seam splits at the top and bottom right. Disc (heavy vinyl-red "6-eye" label characteristic of a 1st pressing-both sides are promo stamped) is clean and glossy, with a little minor scuffing-grades NM. Plays nicely with minor surface noise and rich sound.
