  • Almeida, Laurindo-Concierto De Aranjuez- LP- stereo-Estudio Eldorado (Brazil) 18.79.0345 - 1978 33 1/3 Brazil-only LP release by distinguished guitarist, Laurindo Almeida. Almeida, an important figure in the development of Bossa Nova, has recorded in many styles: pure Bossa, Jazz, Classical, and Pop. Tracks on this LP (apparently NOT available on CD) include "Concierto De Aranjuez", "Songs From Black Orpheus" (3 song medley), and "How Insensitive (Insensatez)". Copy at hand is still factory SEALED (slight creasing to corners)-disc within is MINT and unplayed. - (SEALED) - $7.99- Order

  • McFarland, Gary-Soft Samba Strings- LP- mono-Verve V 8682 - 1966 33 1/3 LP release by composer/arranger/conductor/vibraphonist, Gary McFarland. Album is follow-up to 1964 LP, "Soft Samba", inspired by his work on the soundtrack to the film "13", which used a string orchestra & vocal chorus. This LP uses that setting, & McFarland's floating vibes sound, on Bossa Nova rhythms. Most of the songs are Classically-derived themes. (ex: "The Lamp Is Low" uses theme by Ravel.) Standout tracks (both anthologized on the "Latin Lounge" compilation) are the hypnotic "Theme From 13" & the enigmatic "Once We Loved". Cover shows very slight ringwear-no stains, tears, splits, etc. Top right corner has an "X" stamped into it. Disc has orig. Verve inner sleeve. Vinyl is clean & glossy, showing 3 or 4 long light marks on A side which do not signifigantly affect play. Disc plays nicely w/only light surface noise & clear sound.

  • Mendes, Sergio-The Beat of Brazil- LP- Stereo-Atlantic SD1480 - 1967 release, pure Brazilian jazz album by Sergio, probably recorded before his more "pop" recordings with the Brazil '66 group, arrangements by Antonio Carlos Jobim, all-Brazilian band includes Sebastian Netos, Edison Machado, Edson Maciel Raulzinho, Hecor Bisignani, and Aurino Ferreira, tunes include "Desfinado", "Corcovado", and "Coisa No. 2", glossy cover is near perfect as is the disc (a few scuffs only!), beautiful copy! - (M-/NM) - $18- Order

  • Thelma-The Haunting New Voice From Brasil- LP- stereo-Columbia CS 9500 - 1967 33 1/3 RPM LP release by Bahia, Brazil vocalist, Thelma Soares, generally known only as 'Thelma'. Little info on Thelma is available as she made few inroads into the U.S. market. Liner notes state that she was discovered by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes in Sao Paulo in '62, and that she had recorded several albums in her native Brazil before this U.S. debut. In any case, Thelma turns in a solid album of pure Brazilian Samba. Track listing: 1. Samba Do Carioca 2. Samba De Uma Nota So 3. Corcovado 4. Camera 5. Chega De Mentira 6. Garota De Ipanema 7. Desafinado 8. Deus Brasileiro 9. Samba De Roda Da Bahia 10. Deixa 11. Insentataez. Cover is clean with slight wear-small brown stain (sticker residue?) on front at right center edge. Disc (heavy vinyl-red label with black print-"360 Degree Sound" in white at bottom center) is clean, glossy, with only a couple of small light marks on side one. Disc plays nicely with only minor surface noise and clear sound. Excellent vintage Brazilian Samba LP!
