- Benjamin, Heartsille-Virgin Island Steel Band- LP- Stereo-Philips PHS 600-015 - Approx. 1963 release. According to notes, this steel band originated in the Virgin Islands, then began playing in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St.Croix, and were finally invited to play the US. Played the Dinah Shore & Dave Garroway TV shows & were featured at the Sugar Hill club in San Francisco. Music is very well recorded, authentic steel band music in classic style. - Chubby Checker-Limbo Party- LP- Mono-Parkway P7020 - 1962 release with gorgeous, glossy Mint cover. 12 tracks for the classic limbo time. We know that the limbo craze has been around since the dawn of mankind, but it was Chubby who started a frenzy for it in the states with his infectious "Limbo Rock" included here as well as "Somebody Bad Stole the Wedding Bell", "Mary Ann Limbo" and "Banana Boat Limbo Song." - Daville, Russell, with Bill LaMotta Orchestra & Chorus-Carnival in the West Indies- LP- mono-Rainbow RA 003 - 1950's original US Calypso LP-33 1/3 RPM. Issued on the Rainbow label, which was mostly known for US Rhythm & Blues. Singer Daville is from Martinique, according to liner notes. Tracks include "Hurricane Hannah", "Bombs Negra", and "Ugly Woman". LP is listed among "relatively authentic Calypso" LP's (this is their top grade). Handsome glossy cover depicts island beach scene. Cover is extremely clean-2 small yellow (marker) spots on back cover at top right-seam split at top right has been neatly repaired from the inside. - The Tropical Islanders-Mosaiquito Cubano / Love Theme From "Romeo & Juliet"- 45- Mono-TREX 149 - 1960s release 45 RPM single by the well-known Barbados Combos group, The Tropical Islanders. A side is a great uptempo Carribean pre-Soca number with chugging rhythm, R&B organ, brass and lilting guitar (comparable to Reggae). B side has a rather square version of the theme from "Romeo & Juliet" probably intended to help sell the disc, but it is the great A side instrumental that is to be remembered. A side is clean and glossy with two long spindle marks which do not affect play. B side is clean. Plays clean with little surace noise.
