Balaguer is a Dominican Republic vocalist, still performing today, best-known as a bolerista, with roots in Merengue. Balaguer's first big hit came with his rendition of the Papa Molina song, "Nunca Te Lo He Dicho". Big Kimbos/Los Kimbos-Big Kimbos with Adalberto Santiago- Cotique/Fania JMCS 1091- stereo-LP - 1977 33 1/3 Salsa LP release by Big Kimbos. Band was a gutsy New York/Puerto Rican Salsa band, formed by Tipica '73 (an offshoot of the Ray Barretto band) tres player, Nelson Gonzalez. (For the band's first LP, name was LOS Kimbos-this LP, their second, has it as BIG Kimbos.) Other personnel included Joe Manozzi, Roberto Rodriguez, and vocalist, Adalberto Santiago. Track list: 1. El Cieguito De Nagua-"El Cieguito De Nagua"- LP- stereo-Karen KLP 34 - 1978 33 1/3 LP release by El Cieguito De Nagua. Artist is a blind Dominican Republic accordion player from the village of Nagua who is little-known outside of the DR. El Cieguito's musical style is called Merengue Tipico-better known in the Dominican Republic as Perico Ripiao. Perico Ripiao is the old school version of Merengue, using usually just an accordion, a metal guira, and the dominican drum called a tambora. Hancock, Herbie and Foday Musa Suso-Village Life- LP- Stereo-Columbia FC 39870 - 1985 33 1/3 RPM LP release by American Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock and West African (Gambian native) Kora master Foday Musa Suso. The album, produced by world music impressario Bill Laswell, features only Hancock playing an array of electronic keyboards, sythesizers and a digital drum machine and Sousa playing kora and talking drum. The result is modern African fusion with Hancock showing great restraint to fit the style. Tracks include "Kanatente" and "Early Warning." Cover is Near Mint. Disc is clean, glossy & Near Mint.

Laulu-Miehet Male Choir-Finnish Folk Songs- LP- Stereo-Capitol ST 10315 - Early 1960s, 33 1/3 RPM LP released as part of Capitol Records' excellent "Capitol of the World" International series. This album was recorded in Helsinki and features an 85 man acappella group. They perform a program of well-loved Finnish songs by Jean Sibelius, Armas Jarnefelt, Emil Genetz, Sulho Ranta, Selim Palmgren & others. Tracks include "Finlandia Hymni", "Tuutulaulu" & "Kesailta." Cover is very clean and uncreased overall but top right corner shows some wear and a small tear. Disc (black "rainbow" label with colorband) is clean, glossy & Near Mint. Hard-to-find & authentic International record!
Olatunji, Babatunde-Zungo!- LP- mono-Columbia CL 1634 - 1961 33 1/3 RPM LP release by Nigerian drummer and vocalist, Babatunde Olatunji. For this album (his 1st US LP), a large cast of musicians was assembled, including 13 vocalists, a 7-piece Jazz combo (Yusef Lateef, Clark Terry, Jimmy Nottingham, etc), and six percussionists (Montigo Joe, Ray Barretto, etc). Tracks include: 1) "Masque Dance" 2) "Zungo" 3) "Philistine." Sound of LP is a mix of pure Nigerian highlife, Afro-Cuban, and Jazz-flavored pieces, all topped by Olatunji's magnificent drumming. Cover (promo stamp in ink on back cover) is clean with slight ringwear. We have neatly repaired two seam splits at the top and bottom right. Disc (heavy vinyl-red "6-eye" label characteristic of a 1st pressing-both sides are promo stamped) is clean and glossy, with a little minor scuffing-grades NM. Plays nicely with minor surface noise and rich sound.
Orquesta Tipica Nacional-Paginas Do Oro De, Vol. 3- LP- stereo-TH/Top Hits (Argentina) THS 1203 - 33 1/3 RPM LP release by Orquesta Tipica Nacional of Argentina, under the direction of Juan Durand. Unfortunately, we have been unable to unearth any information about this group. Our best guess is that this is a late 1960's or early 1970's release. Tracks (including "Favorita", "Jarro Mocho", and "Castro En Margarita") are labeled by style. Styles include vals, chorote, polo, merengue, joropo, & contradanza. Group appears to have been a traditonal South American string orchestra which played for formal dances and concerts. Cover is still sealed in original shrinkwrap (slight corner creasing). Disc within is, of course, Mint and unplayed.

Raphael's career dates from the early 60's as a singer & actor (compared by Billboard magazine to Elvis Presley and Tom Jones. He is known for his hyper-dramatic, emotional singing style. The Puerto Rican-born Texidor is one of the great Salsa vocalists of the 70's & 80's, having worked with Bobby Valentin, and the Fania Allstars among others, before going on to a solo career. Tracks include "Tight Lips", "Daybreak", "Cry-Baby" and "Let's Dance Sirtaki." The trio is accompanied by George Stratis and his orchestra. This is a handsome LP with a bold and coloful cover design and pictures of other Trio Bel Canto LPs on the back. The cover is Near Mint with very slight wear only. Vinyl is clean, glossy and Mint. Valdes, Vicentico-Vicentico- LP- stereo-TICO CLP 1307 - 1972 33 1/3 LP by Vicentico Valdes (brother of Alfredito & Oscar)-one of Cuba's greatest singers, with a long career beginning in the 1940's. Disc (heavy vinyl-red and white label with black print) shows only minor light marks, grading EXC+. Disc plays a bit noisier than visuals would indicate, however, with moderate surface noise.
